After Donald Trump’s trade war with China, Sony announced a price increase in PlayStation 5 (PS5) in almost every regions of the world, except for the Americas, including Brazil, which maintains its current value – at least for now. The console was high in almost 25% in the regions of Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. The change is in force from this Monday (14). In some areas, the increases will only be in the normally cheaper digital edition of the PS5, while the standard PS5 and the PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro) will remain in the same value.

The increase is a reflection of US President Donald Trump’s trade war, which has caused instability in the world market with the tariffs imposed by the US government to several countries. In Sony’s official statement, the company’s global vice president of the company, Isabelle Tomatis, commented that it was a difficult decision. According to her, the reasons for the increase were a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and floating exchange rates. Digital PS5 Prices around the World

The new values ​​in Europe will make the digital PS5 cost 499.99 euros (R $ 3,324.68 in direct conversion, without considering taxes), compared to 449.99 euros (R $ 2,992.20) previously. However, the disk reader will be cheaper for 79.99 euros (R $ 531.89) when before it cost 119.99 euros (R $ 797.87). In the United Kingdom, the digital PS5 is 429.99 pounds (R $ 3,293.85) compared to 389.99 pounds (R $ 2,987.44) previously. There, the disk reader will be for £ 69.99 (R $ 536.14) while before it cost 99.99 pounds (R $ 765.95). In these regions only the PS5 in digital edition had its price increased.

In Australia and New Zealand, the standard and digital PS5 presented increases in the value of the shelf. In Australian territory, the standard console costs $ 829.95 Australian dollars (R $ 3,042.59) above 799.95 (R $ 2,932.61) and the digital model for 749.95 Australian dollars (R $ 2,749.31), compared to 649.95 (R $ 2,382.71) before. The disc reader, in turn, leaves for 124.95 (R $ 458.06) compared to 159.95 Australian dollars (R $ 586.37).

The same happens in New Zealand, with the standard PS5 for 949.95 New Zealand dollars (R $ 3,231.44), before 899.95 (R $ 3,061.35), the digital PS5 for 859.95 (R $ 2,925.29), 769.96 (R $ 2,619.17), and the disc reader by 139.95 at 139.95 same coin, (R $ 476.06), reduced from the 169.95 New Zealand dollars (R $ 578.11). Prices for other regions were not detailed.

Has the price increase in PS5 has happened?

It is worth remembering that by August 2022, Sony has already increased the price of PlayStation 5 (PS5) in various regions including Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, China, Mexico and Canada. Trump’s tariffs not only affected Sony’s console price. Recently, Nintendo had to postpone Nintendo Switch 2 pre-sale in the US and Canada because of tariffs that can supposedly increase console price by 145%.
