Leak exposes information from administrators and users, highlighting safety failures

The 4chan social network suffered a cyber attack at dawn on Monday (14.abr.2025). The crime resulted in the leakage of data from administrators and users, as well as exhibiting excerpts from the platform’s source code. The action has revealed significant failures in site security, which is known for anonymity and extremist content.

The attack was initially released in the competing forum Soyjak.Party. Users have quickly published leakage details, including names, emails, and other personal information from 4chan moderators and janitors.

The exhibition involved doxxing practices, ie unauthorized disclosure of personal data. This action is considered a crime in various jurisdictions, such as Brazil. The disclosure compromises the security of administrators and directly threatens the anonymity promised to the site goers.

Cybersecurity experts point out that 4chan uses outdated management systems, which may have facilitated the attack. According to them, the lack of periodic updates and basic digital protection measures contributed to the breach.

The 4chan houses several communities, including supporters of the former president and members of the Qanon group. The platform also has a history of hosting illegal content, such as leaks of intimate celebrity images.
