Former Defense Minister Walter Braga Netto, arrested since December 14 for alleged obstruction of justice in the inquiry of the coup attempt, was visited by the PL leader in the House, Gostenes Cavalcante (RJ). At the meeting, Braga Netto celebrated the presentation of the urgent request for the amnesty project to the convicts on January 8.
To the EstadãoSostenes said Braga Netto, who is stuck in a barracks where he has access to television with open channels, congratulated him on work in the articulation of the project.
His visit, who was the first person outside the family to visit Braga Netto, lasted about 40 minutes. The former minister has been detained for 122 days at the 1st Army Division in Vila Militar, Rio.

Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered him to arrest him after the Federal Police appointed a telephone call and messages from the former minister with the father of former presidential orders Mauro Cid, General Mauro Lourena Cid, as an attempt to interfere with the coup investigation. The former defense minister claims that Lourena Cid was looking for him.
“Mauro Cid’s father who called him. So he thinks the prison does not support himself. […] He also said he never heard the word blow to the meetings he participated in and that he was haunted with the history of black kids, ”Sostenes told Estadão’s column.
On the visit, Sostenes prayed the father with Braga Netto. The PL leader also presented him with the book “A Life with Purpose – Why am I on Earth?” By American Evangelical Pastor Rick Warren. The work of 352 pages seeks to bring reflections to the reader about the meanings of life.

The PL leader also said to Estadão that Braga Netto lost between one to two pounds exercising. Sostenes stated that the general “has no privileges” in prison, being reclined to a space with bedroom and bathroom and feeding on the food of the military barracks.
Last Thursday, 10, Moraes authorized the visits to Braga Netto. According to the magistrate, politicians will need to take turns in groups of up to three people to visit the former Justice Minister between 14h and 16h. According to Sostenes, next Thursday, 17, the Senators Damares Alves (Republicans-DF) and Hamilton Mourão (Republicans-RS) will go to the barracks.
Braga Netto, who was a candidate for deputy in the presidential plate of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in 2022, is one of the eight defendants reported by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to integrate the first core of the coup attempted. The complaint was accepted on the Supreme Court on March 26.

According to the complaint, Braga Netto organized at his house a meeting with the nucleus of military trained in special forces of the Army, the so -called “black kids”. At the meeting, they presented the planning of the actions to consummate the coup. He would also have promoted reprisals against the military of the high -end of the Armed Forces who did not associate with the coup plot.
Alongside General Augusto Heleno, former Minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI), he would have integrated a cabinet to manage the crisis after the institutional rupture. PGR also associated it with the “Operation Green and Yellow Dagger”, where the murdered Moraes, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) was planned.
To the STF, Braga Netto’s defense said the complaint is “illogical and fantasy.” His lawyers also stated that the PGR play looks like “a bad and meaningless movie.”

“Like a bad and meaningless film, the complaint presents holes in its script that challenge any plausible logic. In a surrealist way, it maintains absurdity such as the arrest plan of a dead person. If there is no commitment to logic, certainly there is no commitment to the proof,” said the former minister’s defense.
