Do not put in an Easter basket. There will be a lot of shame

Before you put a chocolate bunny, a bottle of tincture and a chicken mascot into the saint, read this article. You will avoid not only the grandmother’s daring, but also the priest’s surprised face.

Let’s start from scratch, which is what should be found there. Let’s also remind you what individual products symbolize.

  • Bread – symbolizes the body of Christ. It is best that it is real, baked with a heart, not necessarily reminiscent of a supermarket bagel.
  • Eggs – a symbol of life and resurrection. They can be painted, colored, but do not change them into plastic or chocolate eggs (about this in a moment).
  • Salt – a spice of life, a symbol of durability and purification.
  • Steam – usually a piece of sausage or ham. Symbol of prosperity and holidays.
  • Horseradish – the sharpness of horseradish reminds of the Passion of the Lord, and at the same time cleanses.
  • Cake – usually Easter grandmother. Symbolizes God’s skills and gifts.
  • Lamb – a symbol of Jesus Christ. It can be made of sugar, butter or bread.

This is a classic set. Modest, symbolic and full of meaning – sufficient.

Chocolate bunny

It is sweet, tasty and charming, but … it has nothing to do with Christianity. The bunny is a secular symbol, derived from pagan traditions related to fertility and the arrival of spring. Although themed, it is better to leave him at home as a dessert.

Alcohol (yes, even homemade)

A bottle of vodka, raspberry tincture from my aunt or a mini bottle of whiskey “for a curfe that”? Absolutely not. Święconka is a blessing of food, not drinks. Alcohol, even if “for a warm -up after resurrection”, does not match the spiritual dimension of this rite.

Mascots and toys

Little Bear? A plastic chicken who sings after pressing? Or maybe a mini car, because my son likes? Unfortunately not. The Easter basket is a place for food – spiritual symbolism, not a collection of gadgets. It is worth that children from a young age learn traditional rituals and beliefs of their ancestors.

Processed and fast-food products

Easter is a festival of tradition, not a burger. Unfortunately, in Easter baskets there are still sausages, candy bars, chips, and dinosaur yogurciki. Not only do they match the idea of the holiday or basket at all, but there are also unhealthy.

Money in a basket

Sometimes people throw into the basket “fortunately” a banknote or at least a coin with the hope of prosperity and multiplying the property. The saint is about spirituality, not materialism – there is nothing to delude yourself, that devoting money will bring you wealth, it does not work.

This question returns every year and each time raises as much emotion and controversy: can you eat a saint immediately after returning from the church?

Some people throw themselves on eggs and sausage as if they have been running for a long time. But even if you refrained through the whole post from meat foods, hold on a dozen or so hours. We consume glowing foods only on Easter Sunday, with a solemn breakfast.

This breakfast symbolizes the resurrection of Christ and the end of Lent. Saint food on Holy Saturday evening is like opening presents before Christmas Eve.
