Measures were supported by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán; Protesters protested in front of Parliament
The Hungary Parliament approved on Monday (14.ab.2025) a series of constitutional amendments, including the strict gender definition (male and female only) and the suspension of Hungarian citizenship for those who have double nationality.
The measures were supported by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán (Hungarian Civic Union, right), whose government is marked by investers against the LGBTI population (there are laws that limit marriage only between men and women) and restrictions on immigration.
Government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs justified the suspension of Hungarian citizenship of those who have dual nationality saying it is an effort to combat foreign influences.
Protesters gathered in front of Parliament in Budapest before the vote, in protest against what they see as a setback in human rights.
