Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Tuesday that Nadine Heredia, wife of former President Ollanta Humala, entered the Brazilian embassy in Lima to ask for asylum, hours after both were sentenced to prison for money laundering.
Peru’s court sentenced Humala and Heredia to 15 years in prison for illicit money laundering from Brazilian companies for his political campaign, in another high profile sentence in a country where several leaders were involved in cases of corruption.
