Where does the money come from? It was the question raised by Saturday magazine 1 year and a half ago, and is now being investigated by the court.
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) has confirmed today to what Pedro Nuno Santos is being the subject of a preventive investigation. Concerned Acquisition of two propertiesone in Lisbon and one in Montemor-o-Novo, by the socialist leader.
The prosecution’s statements also advance, which explains that the investigation follows “following reception of complaints and in view of the collection of elements ”
The investigation runs “in terms of the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action)”. “These prevention actions are provided for in Law 36/94 of 29 September,” says PGR.
In November 2023, the magazine had already reported that the source of the funds used to acquire the properties concerned was not known.
One of the properties will have been partially paid the ready in 2018 by Pedro Nuno Santos’s wife, Catarina Gâmboa, and the remaining amount was financed by a bank credit (450,000 euros), paid in full shortly after. At the time, Pedro Nuno was Secretary of State for Parliamentary Affairs.
Already in 2022, the leader of the PS acquired a property of 2.2 hectares in Montemor-o-Novo. The property cost 570 thousand euros, 455.950 of them funded by a credit from Caixa Geral de Depósitos.
