Russia: imprisonment to 4 journalists for 'extremist' activity

A court sentenced her to five and a half years in prison 4 who were found guilty of “extremist” activity, specifically for cooperation with the “FBK Foundation” (FBK) founded by the late Russian opposition leader, who died in 2024.

Journalists Antonina Favorskaya (or Kravchova), Sergei Karelin, Constantine Gaboff and Artiom Kriger were sentenced to five years and six months in prison, according to the verdict of Judicia Natalia Borisenkova.

Antonina Favorskaya, a Sotavision journalist, was first arrested on March 24, 2024. He was accused of collecting material, creating and editing videos and publications for the FBK. She had said that the indictment against her was related to her reports on the imprisonment and death of Alexei Navalny. Favorskaya had written from the detention center in which she was accused “of helping to organize the funeral of Alexei Navalny”.

In April 2024, Sergei Karelin and Constantine Gaboff were arrested, who worked for the Associated Press and Reuters, respectively. The arrest was followed in June by Sotavision journalist Artiom Kriger.
