São Paulo, SP (Folhapress)-The target of frequent attacks by Donald Trump in his nearly 100 days of government, former President Joe Biden, 82, returned on Tuesday (15) to the United States political debate to defend the legacy he left and return criticism of the republican’s management, even if not to mention him directly.

“In less than a hundred days, this new government has caused so much damage and so much destruction. It is breathtaking,” Biden said at an event for defenders and representatives of people with disabilities in Chicago.

It was Biden’s main speech since he left the presidency on January 20. And it was the first time that the Democrat has publicly criticized the current government.

The Democrat’s focus was Social Security, an area already considered strategic by Democrats to reverse the Republican majority in Congress in 2026, when the so -called MidterMs occur, the legislative elections in the middle of the mandate of the chief executive.

According to Biden, the sector was stained by the current government. He mentioned the resignation of employees who would have caused disruption in social security systems. The Trump administration plans to dismiss 7,000 employees in the sector, as well as imposing plans to impose more rigorous identity verification measures on the beneficiaries.

“Social security is more than a government program, it is a sacred promise we have done,” said Biden. “We never, never, should betray that confidence or turn our backs to this obligation.”

Biden’s speech took place at a time when Democrats across the country seek to raise Social Security as a fundamental issue for the 2026 middle term elections, which will decide the balance of power in Congress in the last two years of Trump’s final term.

As he is cautiously, she also emphasized that the current government will protect the elderly who have received retirement benefits. It also mentioned the Trump decree that prevents immigrants from obtaining social security benefits.

Biden’s speech indicates new behavior during the Trump administration of Democratic leaders, whose opposition to the current president has been pointed out as fragile on most fronts. Earlier this month, Barack Obama and Kamala Harris, former president and former vice, respectively, also fired criticism of the Republican at separate events.

Obama mentioned Trump’s efforts to reshape the federal government, repress immigration, and intimidate dissent. He said the Republican’s tariffs on several countries “will not be good” for Washington. But his biggest concern, he emphasized, is what he called the White House violation of rights.

Kamala, in turn, said that Trump’s return to the presidency created a “great sense of fear,” which inhibits the government’s manifestations. She was defeated by the Republican in the November elections.
