Egg price climbs in the first quarter of the year were still smaller than those observed in 2022 and 2023
The price of eggs in the European Union (EU) rose 6.7% in March, compared to the same month, and 2.9% in Portugal, according to data released Thursday by Eurostat.
The homologous inflation rate in eggs accelerated in March against the previous two months (3.4% in January and 4.1% in February), according to the European statistical service.
Among the EU Member States, the largest homologous increase in eggs was recorded at the Chéquia (46.0%in March 2025 compared to March 2024), followed by Slovakia (29.8%) and Hungary (26.1%).
On the other hand, the egg price recorded the largest descent in the Netherlands (-3.6%), Luxembourg (-3.2%) and Greece (-2.0%).
Egg price climbs in the first quarter of the year were still smaller than those observed in 2022 and 2023, where every month between April 2022 and September 2023 had two -digit increases, the largest of 31.2% in February 2023, compared to the same month of 2022.
In 2024, EU egg price retreated in the first ten months, rising in November (1.9%) and December (3.3%).
