China will call, next week, an informal meeting of the United Nations Security Council to accuse the United States of intimidation and “launch a shadow on global peace and developmental efforts” by using tariffs as a weapon.
The measure occurs as Beijing adopts a hard line stance on a climb of the trade war with Washington, triggered by the high tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on China imported items.

“All countries, especially developing nations, are victims of unilateralism and intimidation practices,” says the conceptual note of the UN informal meeting on “the impact of unilateralism and intimidation practices on international relations.”
The note, which invites all 193 UN Member States to attend the April 23 meeting, specifically criticizes the United States for imposing tariffs.

“Using tariffs as an extreme pressure tool, the US has severely violated the rules of international trade and caused serious shocks and turmoil in the world economy and the multilateral trade system, launching a shadow on global efforts to peace and development,” says the conceptual note.
The US Mission in the UN forwarded a request for commentary on the meeting planned by China to the State Department, which did not respond immediately.
The United Nations Trade and Development Agency said on Wednesday that global economic growth could slow down to 2.3%, as commercial tensions and uncertainty boost a recession trend.
