The Special Commission on Dead and Missing Politicals announced on Wednesday (16) the identification of the bodies of the Mason Denis Casemiro and the sailor Grenaldo de Jesus da Silva, missing politicians in (1964-1985) who had their bone remnants hidden in the north of São Paulo.

The announcement of the identification of the Casemiro Body, a mason missing in 1971, comes as a historical correction, as, according to the group, in 1991 there was recognition of bones that were misinquitely attributed to him, by a process of graphic overlap, at the time performed by Unicamp.

“In 1991, DNA tests were not used. Our great differential was to use this technology, which was decisive to link the Casemiro family genetic profiles with the genetic profile of a set of bone remnants,” said Samuel Teixeira, the committee’s scientific coordinator.

According to Teixeira, the multidisciplinary approach of varied areas of the forensic sciences used in the process of identifying the missing was decisive, along with the collaboration of family members in the supply of biological samples for DNA tests.

Dennis and Grenaldo were tortured and had their bodies hidden by the military regime in the clandestine Vala de Perus, discovered in 1990 in the management of the then mayor of São Paulo Luiza Erundina.

The ceremony of this Wednesday, held at UNIFESP, was attended by relatives of Grenaldo and authorities such as the Minister of and Citizenship, (PT), state deputy Eduardo Suplicy () and federal deputy Natália Bonavides (PT-RN).

“At the same time as today is a day of victory, it is a lot of pain and dismay,” said the minister.

The recognition of the two victims came less than a month after the federal government in the guard and identification of the Perus ditch bones, from 1990 to 2014.

The clandestine ditch, used illegally in the 1970s to bury indigente and missing politicians, is in Dom Bosco cemetery. It was opened in September 1990, when 1,049 boxes with human remnants were found, of which 41 would be from opponents to the dictatorship.

Prior to the cases of Dênis and Grenaldo, four other politicians had been identified at the scene.
