Electric mobility has been gaining ground in Portugal, driven not only by environmental concerns, but also by economic considerations. The Association of Electric Vehicle Users (UVE) updates a comparative analysis of the costs associated with the use of an electrical car in the face of an internal combustion vehicle, providing relevant data for those who consider this transition.
According to UVE, to travel 100 kilometers with an electric car, the costs vary depending on the type of charging:
- 2,11 euros with bi-hourly tariff (domestic loading at economic time);
- 3,19 euros with simple rate (domestic loading);
- 7,88 euros in public roads.
Considering a typical scenario where 25% of shipments are made on the public road and 75% at home, the average cost per 100 kilometers is located 3,55 euros.
In contrast, combustion vehicles have higher costs:
- 9,83 euros for gasoline vehicles;
- 7,60 euros for diesel vehicles.
These values reflect a significant difference in operating costs, favoring electric vehicles, especially when charging is made predominantly at home.
UVE’s analysis is based on various parameters, including the 10 models of light passenger cars best selling in 2024, real vehicle consumptions (WLTP data), fossil fuel prices and electricity tariffs, says.
We recommend:
Tax incentives for electric
In addition to operating costs, electric vehicles benefit from tax incentives and other advantages, such as exemption from the Single Circulation Tax (IUC) and vehicle tax (ISV), access to reduced emissions zones and free parking in some cities.
There are other factors to consider
However, it is important to consider other factors in the acquisition decision, such as the initial cost of the vehicle, autonomy, the availability of loading infrastructure and individual mobility needs.
UVE makes available on its website an interactive tool that allows users to calculate the costs associated with the use of electric vehicles, considering different loading scenarios and electricity tariffs.
Should always consider before purchasing a vehicle
Electric vehicles have significant economic advantages in terms of operating costs, especially when charging is made at home. However, the transition decision to electrical mobility must be considered, taking into account several personal and logistics factors.
