Soil decontamination is considered more complex step; Estimated deadline is 6 months

It announced it on Wednesday (16.ab.2025) the hiring of 3 companies to start technical studies in the Gasometer ground, where it intends to build its stadium. The work should last 6 months and will serve as the basis for the conceptual project coordinated by the Events + Venues Arena, responsible for the architectural plan presented in 2024.

AECOM will analyze soil contamination. The company will be in charge of environmental investigation, update of risk assessment and definition of decontamination strategy. This is considered the most complex stage of land preparation.

Soloteste will be responsible for the geotechnical survey, which will serve for structural calculations and definition of the foundations of the stadium. JDS will perform topographic analyzes and evaluate the environmental impact of the work, as well as identify possible compensation actions required by public agencies.

Studies begin next Monday (21.br.2025). According to Flamengo, the data will allow you to define deadlines, costs and needs more accurately.

The initial estimate of R $ 1.9 billion made by the management of Rodolfo Landim was considered superficial by the current board. President Rodolfo “Bap” Landim projects a minimum cost of R $ 3 billion. Mayor Eduardo Paes promised to pay the costs of decontamination, as long as the club presents the values.

Despite already occupying the land, Flamengo has not yet signed the definitive term of possession. The document was scheduled for January, but was postponed twice at the request of the board. The club won the auction in July 2024 for R $ 146 million and also negotiates a supplement of R $ 23 million with Caixa.
