Move will result in savings of $ 8 billion in fuels, says Alckmin

According to the vice president, the decree signed on the 3rd (15.abr) prioritizes energy efficiency, recyclability and vehicle safety

Vice-President and Minister of Industry and Commerce, (PSB), said on Wednesday (16.br.2025) that the (Green Mobility and Innovation Program) must result in an economy of R $ 8 billion from 2027 to 2031.

According to him, the initiative will increase the automation of vehicles and put Brazil in “Vanguard” of automotive sustainability. He spoke in an interview with journalists at the headquarters of MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services) in Brasilia.

The decree sets out progressive and mandatory goals for energy efficiency and the reduction of CO₂ (carbon dioxide) emissions for new, mild and heavy vehicles, sold or imported in Brazil.

The text was signed by the President (PT) on Tuesday (15.abr) and published in the edition of this Wednesday (16.abr) of DOU (Official Gazette of the Union).

According to Alckmin, the regulations are divided into 3 strands: energy efficiency, Vehicle recyclability e Vehicle safety.

The minister also detailed the credit amount for the following years:

  • 2025: R $ 3.8 billion;
  • 2026: R $ 3.9 billion;

“By 2028, it will be $ 19 billion in encouragement for the automotive industry to seek energy efficiency and consumer and society benefit as a whole”he said.

Energy efficiency and reduction of greenhouse gases emission are “Central Pillars” From the Move program, according to Alckmin. A study by the ministry estimates a 12% reduction in CO₂ emission.

The recyclability was cited by the Minister of Industry as a 2nd relevant principle in the program. He stated that Brazil will have 80% recyclability in vehicles, starting from the surface, such as the lining, housing and vehicle wheels, to the most complex parts of the composition.

The goal should increase the life cycle of automotive materials and reduce inappropriate disposal. The automakers will be responsible for creating recyclability systems.

Vehicle safety is another point dealt with by the decree. The federal government wants to improve existing standards and incorporate new technologies. According to Alckmin, the updating of these requirements will “Save lives”.

“Green cars”

Alckmin also announced that he should sign a decree on the Green Green Industrialized Products IPI. Tax policy encourages the production and purchase of “Green cars”with low carbon dioxide emissions.
