Deco Proteste released another weekly update on the cost of food cabaz composed of 63 essential products, and the observed trend is slight descent. Between April 9th and 16th, the total price of Kabaz went from 238.16 euros to 236.87 euros, which represents a reduction of 1.29 euros. Despite this punctual retreat, the global value remains high compared to the beginning of monitoring in January 2022.
At the time, the same products cost 49.17 euros than today, which continues to show a significant impact of food inflation on family budgets.
Foods with higher weekly variations
Among the foods analyzed, we highlight two with relevant increases in the last week: the fish golden and the beef, both with a price climb of around 11%.
These values widely exceed the average weekly variation of Kabaz and reflect supply and production fluctuations.
Evolution of Price in 2024
When analysis is extended to a longer period, the sustained impact of food inflation becomes evident.
Bater meat again occupies the first place in the ranking of increases, with a price variation of 46% over the same period of the previous year.

The eggs are then increased by 38%, and the black fish, with another 31%.
Since early 2024, eggs have led accumulated climbs, with an increase of 27%, followed by beef (23%) and Tomato Chucha (19%).
What includes the Deco Proteste Kabez?
The cabaz monitored by includes products of six categories: meat, frozen, fruit and vegetables, dairy, grocery and fish.
Among the items analyzed are chicken, turkey, carapau, hake, onion, potato, carrot, banana, apple, orange, rice, sparkle, sugar, ham, milk, cheese and butter.
By monitoring prices weekly, the Consumer Protection Organization allows you to track the evolution of the cost of living, especially at a time when economic instability continues to affect the purchasing power of Portuguese families.
Impact for consumers
Although this week’s price descent represents a temporary relief, the overview shows that the cost of essential products remains high.
The beef, in particular, has been one of the most pressured goods, which makes it one of the main factors of feeding in Portugal.
