There is a strike at Portuguese airports and flight delays are expected

The Regional Secretary of Tourism of Madeira pointed out this Wednesday the importance in the new TAP route with direct flights between Faro and Funchal, considering that it opens “new horizons” to the region.

“It’s not only an advantage in tourist terms, but also an advantage for residents” in Madeira, because it represents “another departure, another opportunity to travel” that is “also eligible for the social subsidy of mobility,” said Eduardo Jesus in the presentation of the new call in Funchal.

The new direct airline will take place from June 2 to September 11, Monday and Thursday, and will be operated with Embraer 190 aircraft with a capacity of 106 passengers, as reported to TAP at the end of March.

According to the company, a total of 30 frequencies is foreseen, corresponding to an offer of 3,180 seats in each direction of travel.

On Mondays, the flight departs from Funchal at 20:50 to Faro, being the flight between Faro and Funchal at 23:15. On Thursdays, the flight departs from Funchal at 06:10 and from Faro at 08:35.

According to Eduardo Jesus, TAP and the Regional Government will assess the return of the route to extend the operation throughout the year.

Also according to the regional secretary, in addition to reinforcing “national connectivity”, the connection also allows Madeira to “constitute a new ‘hub’”, opening an important door, as there are many tourists who like to visit different destinations during their holidays. ”

On the other hand, he added, the route can become “another travel destination” for the Madeirans.

Eduardo Jesus recalled, on the other hand, that TAP is the airline that has the “oldest connection” with Madeira, flying since 1960 to Porto Santo Island and since 1964 to Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo.

The ruler also recalled that last year, TAP made available “over 600,000 places” to Madeira, which “corresponds to more than 21% of the region’s supply in national connectivity”.

“At Summer Iata station, there was an increase in the offer of TAP of 5.8% for Madeira and 23.8% for Porto Santo,” he said.

Also present in the presentation of the new route, TAP Mário Chaves administrator assured that the new connection “is not a mere test” and will be important to assess the possibility of extending the operation all year round, besides the Summer Iata, which starts in late March and ends in late October.
