The federal deputy (União-CE) filed a bill to allow discounts on electricity bills for those who use in irrigation and aquaculture activities to be applied during the day, not just night.
The text changes an article of a 2002 law that provides discounts on the electricity bill for consumption in irrigation and aquaculture activities developed in a continuous daily period of 8:30 am, but cites the time between 9:30 pm and 6am the next day. Danilo Forte’s proposal removes the mention of the break.
The deputy argues that the regulation of discounts prevents the development of renewable energy in the countryside.
“The tariff discounts granted to farmers are limited to the night, in a logic that goes back to the need to relieve the electrical system at peak hours,” he says. “The proposal represents a strategic advance by connecting the rate of tariff subsidies with the growth of renewable energy in the field.”
In justification, he states that while the model has fulfilled its function when it was created, it is currently insufficient to meet the demands of the field, “especially in regions where weather and agronomic conditions impose the need for irrigation during the day.”
Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency) would be allowed to allow special discounts on rural consumers to be used throughout the day. “This is a proposal that aligns with the country’s energy transition goals, modernizes the agricultural sector and reinforces the role of parliament in the construction of concrete solutions for rural Brazil.”
