Ethics Council approved the request for 13 votes on 5 on April 9; In protest, deputy is on hunger strike and remains in the plenary of the house
The federal deputy do completed a week on hunger strike in protest against the revocation of his mandate by the House of Representatives Ethics Council. Accused of breach of parliamentary decorum for expelling a House MBL protester last year to kicks and pushes, Glauber also aggravated his situation by calling the mayor “thieves” during a session. Amid the protest, the deputy has eaten only isotonic beverages and performed daily medical appointments, having lost more than 4 kg. Glauber’s protest was supported by government ministers, deputies from various parties, social movements and artists such as Chico Buarque. Seven ministers, including and Sônia Guajajara, visited the deputy in the House, and a petition against his cassation has gathered 154 thousand signatures.
Glauber Braga’s situation is seen by his supporters as a political persecution, especially after he denounces a deviation scheme of parliamentary amendments, known as the “Secret Budget”, involving former House Mayor Arthur Lira. PSOL plans to resort to the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) until next Tuesday (22), considering two strategies: an extensive and detailed resource or a shorter and more objective piece.
The possibility of bringing the case to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) is also being evaluated. The cassation has already been approved by the Ethics Council, and now the case goes to the House Plenary, where the reversal of the decision is considered more difficult.
