Safe Easter with a pet - what is worth remembering?

Easter is inseparably associated with family meetings and joint feasting at the appetizingly set table. While we enjoy tasty dishes and colorful decorations, our four -legged family members can be in situations that threaten their health. Thanks to the responsible approach, Christmas time can be not only tasty for us, but also safe and happy for our pets. Here’s what to look for at the Easter table, when dogs and cats accompany us:

Easter dishes – delicious for us, inappropriate for animals

Pets have completely different nutritional needs than human. It is very important to be aware that some products from the diet of people can be harmful and even toxic to our four -legged pets, which is why it is so important not to feed dogs and cats with dishes from the holiday table.

– A diet for dogs and cats should always be adapted to their needs. Feeding animals with human food can be a source of many health problems and sometimes serious poisoning, because some products from people’s diet are toxic to our four -legged pets. Even small amounts of products such as chocolate, raisins and garlic can cause serious health ailments in animals. During the statistically holiday season, the most cases of poisoning in our pets appear precisely because some caregivers share dishes with them from their own table – says Małgorzata Głowacka, veterinarian and scientific expert on animal nutrition at Mars Polska.

Watch out for chocolate and cakes

Chocolate bunnies, mazurkas, grandmothers or cheesecakes – although delicious for people, can be dangerous for dogs and cats. Chocolate contains theobromine, an animal toxic substance that can cause vomiting, convulsions and even life, leading to kidney failure. Cakes and other baked goods often have raisins, cocoa, macadamia nuts, and xylitol sweeteners – also poisonous ingredients for quadrupeds.

Fatty meats and spices? Not necessarily!

Baked meats, pies or fried cutlets are classic Easter dishes. Unfortunately, their high fat content and spices such as garlic or onion can cause digestive problems and even pancreatitis in our four -legged pets. Also, do not feed animals with bones, because they may cause damage to the mouth (e.g. teeth or gums), and lead to intestinal obstruction.

Better choice: safe treats and daily routine

Remember that even a small amount of inappropriate food can have serious consequences for the health of our animals. Instead of risking, let’s provide them with safe delicacies created especially for dogs and cats and a lot of Christmas love. An example of such delicacies, which at the same time support the health of the pet, are dental snacks, cares for the hygiene of teeth and gingival of quadrupeds, or multivitamins. Snacks can also meet the natural behavioral needs of, e.g. chewing and biting in dogs, au cats, we can use them as ending the game in hunting, which is inseparably connected with their hunting instinct. Spending snacks also plays an important role in building ties with a quadruped, especially in combination with joint fun.

– Giving delicacies and shared time is an important element of strengthening relationships with a quadruped. Let us also keep in mind that the festive diet of dogs and cats should not differ from the everyday one, because sudden changes in food are a very common cause of digestive problems in animals. Therefore, giving complete and balanced food, adapted to the needs of a given species, age and lifestyle, is conducive to maintaining the health and well -being of the pet for many years – explains Małgorzata Głowacka.

Don’t forget about movement and fun

Christmas relaxation should not mean giving up everyday walks and activity. A regular dose of movement and fun together are the best gift for a pet – it will help him unload energy and maintain well -being.

Holidays full of concern and love

The safety of pets during Christmas should be the priority of every guardian. Easter with a pet is a great opportunity to spend time together, and taking care of the health and comfort of our dogs and cats, we will make Christmas joyful for both us and them. These are small gestures, such as a healthy meal or fun together, make Christmas happy to our four -legged friends.
