The city of Cubatão, which in the 1980s was considered the most polluted on the planet, was one of those contemplated with recognition of the UN as one of the green cities in the world.
Of the 34 cities of the country that received the distinction, 13 are São Paulo. Twelve of them participate in the State Program Verdeazul Municipality, which supports public environmental management policies.
The 13 received last year resources of ICMS Environmental, which passes part of the tax to municipalities that adopt sustainable practices.
In addition, 7 are on the list of cities trained by the São Paulo State Economic Ecological Zoning, which guides the sustainable development of municipalities.
