Above the High Tatras on Thursday, the occurrence of the Sahara dust culminates, which brought to the southern part of Poland southern and southwest winds. It can be observed as a darker color of the sky and yellowish traces in the snow in higher altitudes. The occurrence of this natural phenomenon was pointed out by Agnieszka Pigs from the Polish Hydrometeorological Institute (IMGW). Informs Warsaw Newsletter TASR according to PAP.

The Sahara dust consists of small sand and mineral dust, which floats above the desert thanks to ascending currents and then atmospheric circulation gets to the north. According to meteorologists, this is a recurrent spring phenomenon, which was observed above the Tatras last year.

Dust worsens the air quality and at the same time affects the appearance of the mountain panorama. Its deposition can be visible especially in the form of yellowish feet in the snow in the highest positions of the Tatras. In the case of precipitation, the occurrence of the so -called. dirty rain. IMGW expects that the phenomenon intensity begins to fade over the weekend when collisions arrive above the region.

Together with the dust, very warm air masses arrived in the Tatras, which caused sharp warming. On the Kasprov Hill in the morning, they measured 6 degrees Celsius, in the valley of five Polish molds up to 10 degrees. In the buried temperatures, they exceed 20 degrees Celsius. In combination with the wind, this causes quick melting of snow. On Kasprov Hill lost 40 centimeters in a week, the current layer reaches 65 centimeters there.

Tatranska Voluntary Mountain Service (Topr) warned of increased avalanche danger. The snow cover is significantly soaked with water and becomes heavy and unstable. On the sun -drenched slopes there are avalanches.
