That the world of mountaineering is mostly male but somewhat macho, it is not a novelty. When it comes to high mountains, so many boys like to show off almost like super-human, alpha males of impossible causes. But to show that women can everything they can and, if fooling, a little more, a project is underway to bring three climbers to the top of the Himlung Himal, a mountain of 7,126 meters of altitude in the Annapurna region in Himalayan. They will be guided by Sherpanis, which are the women of the Sherpa ethnicity, and accompanied by an entire support team (cooks, loaders etc) formed exclusively by … women, of course.
Vanessa Oliveira, 52, is the businesswoman, physical education professional, multipotential coach, triathlete and ultramarathonist at the head of the project, organized by Morgado Expedições, which will also have the participation of the medical sport in remote areas and mountaineer for 28 years Fernanda May, and Micaela Lopez, businesswoman, Brazilian champion athlete, and in love with sports, there is 25 years climbs mountains walking, running and climbing.
The project is expected to last approximately 30 days next October, and will be accompanied by another group of trekkers – also formed exclusively by women – who will walk with the climbers to the Himlung base camp. This group, which will have a relatively easier life, has not yet been formed, but Vanessa hopes to receive applications from this week, preferably before she departs to Denali, the highest mountain in North America, in Alaska, with her 6,190 meters and a powerful challenge for the difficulty of the climate and the technical demand represented by the height of about 5,500 meters from the top to the summit, the largest mountain. Sea level.
It is worth remembering that Denali, who in the region Koyukhon, native to the region, means “The Great,” is the original name of the mountain exchanged by US President Donald Trump, in his two terms, to Monte McKinley, in honor of former Republican President Ohio William McKinley, who ruled from 1897 to his murder on September 14, 1901.
