Why is the moss grow on the cobblestones?

Before we get to the removal methods, it is worth understanding why it appears at all:

  • Moisture: Moss loves a damp environment. Shady places, lack of adequate drainage, as well as frequent rainfall conducive to its development.
  • Pollution: pollution, such as fallen leaves, grass residues or soil, create a perfect ground for moss.
  • No sun: places shaded by trees, buildings or other obstacles are more susceptible to moss.
  • Incorrect care: the lack of regular cleaning and maintenance of paving stones promotes the development of moss.

Methods of removing moss from paving stones:

There are several methods of removing moss, both mechanical and chemical. The choice of the right method depends on the degree of lichen, type of paving stones and your preferences.

1. Mechanical methods:

  • Rice brush and water: this is the simplest and most ecological method. Just thoroughly scrub the cobblestone with a rice brush, using a large amount of water. This method is effective with small moss lichen.
  • Pressure washer: a pressure washer is a very effective moss removal tool. A stream of high pressure water removes moss and other impurities from the surface of the ankle. However, be careful not to damage the cubes, especially if it is made of soft material. Set the low pressure and keep the nozzle at a safe distance from the surface.
  • Fugue scraper: Fugk scraper is a tool designed for removing moss and weeds from the space between the ankles. It is a labor -intensive method, but very effective, especially in hard -to -reach places.
  • Wire brush: The wire brush can be used to remove moss from paving stones, but this should be done carefully so as not to scratch the surface. This is a good option for heavily overgrown surfaces.
  • Weed combustion combustion: weed combustion combustion is a device that uses hot air to destroy moss and weeds. It is a quick and effective method, but it requires caution not to damage the paving stones.

2. Chemical methods:

  • Moss removal preparations: Special preparations for removing moss from paving stones are available on the market. They should be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, remembering the precautions. Usually, the preparation is applied to the surface of the ankle, and then rinses with water after a certain time.
  • Vinegar: vinegar is a natural remedy that can be effective in the fight against moss. Dilute vinegar with water in a 1: 1 ratio and spray the surface of the paving stones with it. After a few hours, the moss should start dying. Then just remove it with a brush or pressure washer.
  • Baking soda: baking soda is another natural agent that can be used for. Sprinkle with soda baking surface of cobblestones and then spray with water. After a few hours, the moss should start dying. Then just remove it with a brush or pressure washer.
  • The iron sulfate solution: iron sulfate solution is effective in combating moss, but it can cause discoloration of paving stones. It should be used carefully and tested on a small area before using the entire ankle.

The cobblestones covered with moss deteriorate and can crack. It also becomes slippery and there is a considerable risk of slipping on it. To get rid of moss from paving stones, you can reach for natural ways. One of the more often recommended is spraying from Borax. It is a substance that can kill plants in a high concentration. Thanks to these properties, it copes well with moss removal. All you have to do is dissolve Boraks in 5 liters of water and spray the pavement. In the case of places heavily covered with moss, you can directly scatter Borax. This substance is safe for paving stones, but remember to avoid applied borax on which grow nearby. Boraks can destroy them.
