Apple loses presence in the Chinese market in the 1st Tri, says entity

Smartphone remittances of the US company fell 9.3% in the country compared to the same period of 2024

Apple’s smartphone shipments to China fell 9.3% in the 1st quarter of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. This is the 7th consecutive quarter that the US company loses land to Chinese companies in the Asian country. The data are from the IDC (English acronym for International Data Corporation) and are preliminary.

Apple had a slice of the 15.6% Chinese smartphone market in the first quarter of last year. Now the company has 13.7%. Its Chinese rivals Xiaomi and Huawei increased their deliveries by 39.9% and 10%, respectively and saw their market slices grow from 13.8% to 18.6% and from 17% to 18%, respectively.

In the consolidated, the smartphone market in China grew 3.3% in the 1st quarter of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. A total of 71.6 million new gadgets reached the Chinese shelves in the first 3 months of the year. In the first quarter of 2024, the total number of new mobile phones with internet access in China was 69.3 million.

Growth was driven by government subsidies extended to smartphones in January 2025, as well as market warming during the Chinese New Year holiday, celebrated from late January to mid -February 1. The Chinese market exceeded the global growth of 1.5%. This was the 6th consecutive growth in China’s smartphone market.
