Melon: “I’m sure we can make a deal”
Melon, for its part, described the US as a “credible partner”, he said there would be an agreement on duties and said he would invite the Republican president to Italy.
“I would like to invite President Trump to visit our country and we would like to organize a meeting with Europe,” he said at the start of the debate.
“I think we have to talk honestly and meet halfway. We can find a field to reach an agreement, I am not in favor of Western nationalism, but we can also come out both stronger, we want to strengthen both banks of the Atlantic, “Melon added. Asked about the purpose of Washington, Meloni replied that he “believes in the West unity”.
The Italian prime minister is the first European leader to meet the US president after imposing duties on European imports.
