HAS CNNForeign Minister Mauro Vieira said on Friday that he will talk to Mrs Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP) about the case of the United States visa, where she had a altered gender identity to “male”.
“I will receive her and talk to the deputy this week. Then we will examine, but this is a sovereign decision of the United States, but let’s hear her and talk,” said the minister.
Erika Hilton was invited to lecture this month at an event held at Harvard University and the Massachusett Institute of Technology (MIT) and said she was surprised to receive the change from her visa. She gave up the trip after the episode.
Erika said it considers it important “that the House of Representatives and Itamaraty pronounce as soon as possible.”
The parliamentarian also stated that “Donald Trump does not own the United States, Donald Trump does not own the identity of trans people.”
In a statement, he said it is the country’s politics to recognize two sexes – male and female -, considered, according to the embassy, “unchanging” since birth.
“The US Embassy reports that visa records are confidential according to American law and, by politics, we do not comment on individual cases. We also emphasize that, according to Executive Order 14168, it is the US policy to recognize two sexes, male and female, considered unchanging since birth,” the statement says.
