One of the most powerful countries in the world seems to have felt the threat of China and North Korea and has decided to design a Army that experts call it as devastating.
This is Japan. As reported Kyodo Newsthe Japanese country has decided to spend much more on the country’s army. Its objective is to achieve an investment in defense of 2% of GDP in 2027.
Experts talk that the country’s security situation deteriorated significantly. The increase in military spending from China and the new North Korea missile technology has forced them to step forward.
The Chinese presence
Those responsible for defense of Japan and the United States, Gen Nakatani and Pete Hegseth, agreed on March 30, during the work meeting they held in Tokyo, in need of accelerating the cohesion of their joint action protocols against Chinese operations in the Indo-Pacific region.
“You have to progress on this issue, and urgently,” Nakatani said during the subsequent joint press conference, accompanied by the US Secretary of Defense on his first official trip to the country. Hegseth dedicated his meeting to realize a “robust, prepared and credible” response against China in the region, Taiwan included, before “the aggressive actions of the communists.”
In this sense, Hegseth announced the beginning of the remodeling of the structure of the US military presence in the country, the USFJ, with the creation of a “headquarters” that will cooperate with a homologous body in the self -defense forces of Japan (the Japanese army).
The official Japanese news agency Kyodo said that this strategy was announced initially, although never executed, by the last US Joe Biden administration.
Hegseth also confirmed that the Defense Department will soon add additional personnel to the Tokyo and USFJ venues at the Yokota Air Base to carry out activities aimed at strengthening bilateral ties with Japanese counterparts of the US army, as well as to deepen operational cooperation.
