SHMI warns of dangerous weather: Storms will keep in these districts!

Storms may occur on Friday in several districts of western and central Slovakia. This is pointed out by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMI), which issued a first level warning. Rain warnings apply to some districts.

Storm alerts apply For the whole Nitra region, most of the Trnava and Banská Bystrica regions and districts Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Partizánske and Prievidza. According to meteorologists, however, there is a little probability of storms associated with a sharp downpour with an intensity of 20 to 30 millimeters (mm) in 30 minutes, with wind impacts 65 to 85 kilometers per hour (km/h) and with hail.

“The intensity of concomitant phenomena can cause less damage. In storms, human activities and endangered health may be limited,” SHMI points out. Alerts are valid until 5 pm. In several districts, rain alerts continue to apply.

Locally there may fall 35 to 50 mm of precipitation. They concern some districts of Banská Bystrica, Trenčín, Košice, Nitra and Žilina regions. Alerts also apply until 17.00.
