The Kremlin announced on Friday that the 30-day ceasefire in the conflict in Ukraine, which was limited to energy, had “passed”. At the same time, in response to the US statement on a potential resignation from the efforts to mediate peace between Moscow and Kiev, he said that the suspension of attacks itself can be considered as progress. According to AFP and TASS reports, TASR reports this.

According to Russia, the moratorium entered into force 18 March after the call of Kremlin’s chief Vladimir Putin with US President Donald Trump. Nevertheless, Moscow and Kiev blamed each other for continuing attacks on energy infrastructure. “The month has really passed,” said Kremlľa spokesman Dmitry Peskov for journalists. The Russian President has not yet issued any further instructions, the spokesman explained.

The short -term moratorium is one of the few obligations Trump has achieved in an effort to convey a ceasefire in more than three years of conflict. Putin rejected a joint US-Ukrainian proposal for an unconditional ceasefire he received, reminds AFP.

United States will no longer mediate

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Friday that the United States will stop trying to mediate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, unless there are clear signs that it can be achieved. “We will not continue this effort for weeks and months. We must now very quickly, within a few days, see if it is feasible in the next few weeks. If so, we are going. If not, then we have other priorities we have to focus on,” Rubio told journalists before departure from Paris.

Peskov stated in response to Rubiov’s statement that a limited ceasefire can be considered a shift. “We believe that some progress can already be made. This is progress on the moratorium on the intervention of energy infrastructure equipment,” the spokesman stressed. Peskov on the question of journalists about whether it is likely to be withdrawn from the ceasefire negotiations, he said that “they must ask this question in Washington,” writes TASS.
