The United States will stop trying to mediate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine unless there are clear signs that it can be achieved. This was stated on Friday by US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, TASR reports based on Reuters and AFP reports.
“We will not continue this effort for weeks and months. We must now very quickly, within a few days, find out if it is feasible in the next few weeks. If so, we go for it. If not, then we have other priorities we have to focus on,” Rubio told journalists before departure from Paris, where he negotiated with European and Ukrainian officials on Thursday.
The head of the US diplomacy specified that US President Donald Trump is still interested in an agreement, but he is ready to move to other priorities unless there is a sign of progress.
Rubio, in their own words, hopes that Europeans will continue to be involved in the United States covered by a ceasefire in Ukraine. “I think the United Kingdom, France and Germany can help us move in this and then approach the solution. I think they were very useful and constructive with their ideas,” completed the ministry.
