Trump threatens to abandon mediation to end war between Ukraine and Russia if peace is not ‘viable’

United States President Donald Trump said on Friday that his country will soon “abandon” mediation to end the war in Ukraine if there is no progress by Kiev and Moscow. American Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington will move away if peace between Moscow and Kiev is not “viable.” “Yes, very soon,” replied reporters in the Oval Hall when asked if the statement would confirm.

“There is no specific number of days, but we want this to be done quickly,” he added. Trump refused to blame Russian President Vladimir Putin, who ordered the large -scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, or his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelensky.

However, he insisted that both sides need to move forward. “Now, if for some reason one side makes it very difficult, let’s just say, ‘You’re idiots. You’re some idiots. You’re horrible people,’ and let’s go,” Trump said. “But I hope we don’t have to do that,” he added.

Before returning to power in January, Trump had boasted of being able to end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. He recently claimed he was being sarcastic. THE agreed with a complete temporary ceasefire and accused the to try to gain time to be in a better negotiation position.

Trump surprised everyone by starting direct negotiations with Putin in February, shortly after taking office. On Friday, the US president denied being “deceived” by the Russian leader, who denied his country to invade Ukraine until the day before the attack. “No one is playing with me, I’m trying to help,” said the Republican tycoon.
