Are you interested in the price of the appliance only the price and maybe a brand? A fundamental mistake. When you come to the joint of letters that make up a so -called energy label, you can help save not only the planet but also your own costs. “The labeling is already quite established and it is good to follow it,” says Renata Placková in the podcast.
You can play a podcast episode of a green household here:
Just look at the long white or black row in the nearest Elektra store and you almost get a head. And what about when you start shopping on the Internet. Even with a carefully set filter, you will be able to choose from dozens of appliances. And what if you add to the usual items the fact that it should be economical. Is it possible to rely on some ecological designation? In this case more than in other categories. The awarding of energy labels has clearly set rules, applies internationally and this designation is absolutely reliable. “Four years ago, the categories of labels were modified, but what they mark has not changed and works as well,” says Renata Placková, environmental consultant of the Ecological Institute Veronica.
What the label does not
After the discharge, appliances are divided into categories according to letters, all plus or other symbols disappeared. Therefore, you will find only the letter on the label, for clarity complemented by a color stripe. Green, and is still the most economical. “It is not only about electricity consumption, but where it is relevant, the label indicates economy, for example, in water consumption,” adds the expert. All you need is a single view of the designation in the e-shop and in the stone shop to see whether the dishwasher or refrigerator meets your environmental demands.
In addition, you will find a specific consumption of the product in the highlighted location. It is still true that you will find other data on the label such as energy consumption in resting mode (such as TV or players) or the length of the washing machine. The labeling is also mandatory for all appliances, from bulbs to air conditioning.
What is the selection?
If you are generally concerned with the environmentality of appliances, you can try one more tool. “The European EPREL database is such a comparator of all appliances on the European market. You can search it, among other things, according to energy labels,” says Renata Placková. For example, you will find that in the category you will find only a few products on the market that correspond to the specified criteria. The choice is then simple. Or, on the contrary, there are many and you can submit the selection to other requirements. What you say about a particular database product is very easy to find. Just load the QR in the left corner of the label.
Eprel also works well as an indicator of the economy of the appliances that you already have at home. You can also search for older pieces. Just enter their production number. “Energy labels are tightening over time, and the appliance you bought years ago as an A is possible now C or D,” explains the expert. So you can make it easier for you to change it or let it be exchanged. What to add? Perhaps just that the database is all in Czech, so searching in it does not have to scare you.
