Acre recorded the lowest rates of enrollment in the private school system in Brazil, according to the latest data of the 2024 School Census, released by the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep).
The state occupies the last position in both kindergarten and elementary school: only 4.2% of children from 0 to 6 years are enrolled in private institutions, while in the early and final years of the elementary the indices are 5.3% and 5%, respectively. In high school, Acre has the third smallest percentage, with 5.8% of enrollment in private schools.

In kindergarten, 94.7% of children are enrolled in day care centers or schools – the highest rate in Brazil. In the early years of elementary school, most students (55%) are in municipal schools, the lowest rate among states, while another 40% attend state schools, the second largest percentage in the country.
In the final years of the elementary, the predominance is even higher in the state network, with 82.6% of enrollment, and 12.2% in municipal schools. In high school, 89% of students are in the state network and 5% in federal institutes. The state does not have municipal schools for this stage.
These data show the strong presence of the public network in the state. According to Inep, the distribution is classified according to the administrative dependence of schools, that is, if they belong to the municipal, state or federal sphere.
In addition to the low participation of the private network, the census also reveals infrastructure difficulties, especially in internet access in Acre schools. Only 48.2% of educational institutions have internet connection – the lowest rate in the country.

For the Ministry of Education, rates below 70% are considered worrying. Acre was behind even from other states in the northern region, such as Amazonas (58.1%), Roraima (61.9%), Pará (66.4%) and Amapá (67.3%).
Another data that draws attention in the survey is the high number of schools with up to 50 students enrolled. Acre leads nationally in this regard, with 47.2% of school units classified as small.
This proportion exceeds that of neighboring states such as Amazonas (43%) and Roraima (40.9%), reinforcing the characteristic of internalization and spraying of educational institutions in the state.
