Hugo Calderano wrote on Friday (19) another historical chapter for Brazilian table tennis. The 28 -year -old carioca beat Chinese Wang Chuqin, number 2 in the world ranking, 4 sets to 3 and secured an unprecedented place in the final of the table tennis.
With partials of 14/12, 5/11, 6/11, 7/11, 11/7, 11/3 and 12/10, Calderano showed reaction power by turning the game in a fierce duel, even with the opponent having added one more point in total.
Prior to the semifinal against the Chinese, the Brazilian had already surprised to eliminate Japanese Tomokazu Harimoto, also turned. The feat represents the best campaign of an athlete in Brazil in the history of the tournament, and comes less than a year after Calderano earn the best result of national table tennis in Olympics, when they reach the quarterfinals at Paris Games.
The grand final will be broadcast live on Youtube, on Cazétv and ITTF World channels. Calderano will seek to crown his trajectory with the unprecedented title to continue making history in Brazilian sport.
