On Saturday (19) guaranteed another historic feat in his career by winning a remarkable victory over Chinese Wang Chuqin at the Table Tennis World Cup, played in Macao. The Brazilian won by 4 sets to 3, with partials of 14/12, 5/11, 6/11, 7/11, 11/7, 11/5 and 12/10. With the result, Calderano advances for the first time to the grand final of the tournament, consolidating his best campaign in the competition so far. In a fierce first set, Calderano closed up on 14/12. The Brazilian started the departure with dominant posture, commanding most points. He was the one who dictated the rhythm of the exchanges. At the decisive moment, he saved three set points and, with aggressiveness and control, closed the first set.
Following, Chuqin grew up in the game and tied the match winning the second partial by 11/5. The Chinese shortened the withdrawals efficiently, limited Calderano’s offensive attacks and took control of the points, pressing the Brazilian with intensity. Calderano still tried to react, but Wang won decisive points. The Chinese continued to run the actions, controlling the points and alternating between accurate submissions and plays that forced Calderano’s error. Dominating, Chuquin won the third set by 11/6 and became the match.
In the fourth set, Chuquin once again closed the partial advantage on 11/7. Calderano, in turn, took advantage of opportunities and won the fifth set by 11/7, reducing the difference in the scoreboard. Maintaining good performance, Calderano tied the game and took the semifinal to the last and decisive set with a partial 11/5. In it, he knocked down the Chinese and now goes to the final after closing partially on 12/10, making history for Brazilian table tennis.
