Who is Hugo Calderano?
Born in Rio de Janeiro, in 1996, Hugo Calderano began playing table tennis at the age of eight. In addition to the sport for which he arrived at the Olympics, the athlete practiced volleyball and athletics until he was 12 years old. Highlight in the sport since young people, moved to São Caetano do Sul, in São Paulo, at 14, to train with the Brazilian Table Tennis Team.
In 2013, at the age of 17, he was the youngest athlete to win a stage of the World Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Circuit. The player is also the first in the Americas to reach the top-3 of the federation ranking. Calderano currently plays at Germany Ochsenhausen, but had stints at Russia’s Fakel Gazprom Orenburg and Kinoshita Meister Tokyo. In 2024, he ranked fourth at the Paris Olympics.

Sports enthusiast, Calderano has a hobby to practice basketball, volleyball and tennis. The Brazilian is also a magic cube aficion, having about 70 and getting them, according to the athlete’s official website, in about nine seconds-in the 3×3 cube, his record is 5.3 seconds. The tablet is vegetarian and speaks seven languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish, German, Mandarin, French and Italian.
Self -taught, Calderano learned to read and write alone at 4 and liked to be challenged to do head accounts. Carioca also knows what are all the capitals of all countries in the world.
