Former President Critica Asylum given by Brazil to former Peru’s first lady Nadine Heredia, convicted of money laundering

The former president (PL) criticized on Friday (18.abr.br.2025) the decision of the government of the president (PT) of giving the former first lady of Peru Nadine Heredia, sentenced by the country’s neighboring court for money laundering.

In post on his X profile, Bolsonaro that the executive “Distorts the asylum institute to sympathize with those who steal from their own people”.

Bolsonaro stated that the “Image of Brazil abroad is being torn by those who should defend it”. He also stated that justice “It cannot continue to be used as an instrument of revenge, according to the whims and wills of a single man”.

Understand the case Nadine Heredia

Nadine Heredia and her husband, former Peruvian president Ollanta Humala (2011-2016), were 15 years in prison for money laundering, accused of receiving illegal resources from Odebrecht and the Venezuelan government. Both deny the accusations.

The trial lasted 3 years, when the former president claimed political persecution.

Humala is the 2nd Peruvian president arrested and the fourth involved in the Odebrecht case, who was renamed Novonor in 2020.
