It started yesterday, for the first time in a long time, with the wind of diplomacy blowing in favor of it.
It has finally managed to end up with a “” fossil resources with Washington – an agreement providing US investment in the country’s rebuilding, in exchange for a share of the country’s future profits from its natural resources, energy infrastructure, and oil and gas.
At the same time, the first round of peace talks in Paris took place with the participation of American, European and Ukrainian officials, who were described as “positive”.
However, everything changed when both US President Donald Trump and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio threatened to withdraw from the cessation of fire if there is no immediate progress.
Trump said “” the efforts to settle the war in Ukraine if either Russia or Ukraine are making the end of the conflict very difficult. “If for whatever reason, one of the two sides makes things very difficult, we will simply say: ‘You are stupid, you are stupid, you are awful’, and we will close it.”
Russian control in Crimea
At the same time, the Trump government is said to be ready to recognize Russian rule in Crimea as part of a proposal to end the war. The proposal also includes a ceasefire on the existing front lines.
This framework was notified to European and Ukrainian officials who met yesterday in Paris, and was also discussed in a telephone communication of US Foreign Minister Rubio with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.
There are still individual data to be finalized, and the US is planning to work with Europe and Ukraine on it next week in London.
At the same time, the Trump government is also planning a new meeting between its envoy to the Middle East, Steve Whitkov, and Russian officials to secure Moscow’s consent to the US context.
The Russian forces occupied Crimea in 2014 and then attached it to an action that is considered illegal by the vast majority of the international community. This annex also announced the full -scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
What does the Trump ultimatum mean to Ukraine
According to the BBC, US military aid to Ukraine is gradually coming to an end. No new aid packages are foreseen, nor will the presidential powers will be used for their immediate approval.
If Washington abandons its peacekeeping efforts, Ukraine will depend solely on its European allies to confront the ongoing Russian invasion – which, according to estimates, is not sufficient for the long -term future.
In a particular part of the Ukrainian coast, under the control of Kiev, there is a remarkable success: with the utilization of western and domestic drones, the Russian fleet has been forced to retreat, and a significant sea route has been restored.
However, the problem that President Zelenski himself points out is that these successes on the battlefield are not widely understood. Despite the convergence of the US and Ukraine over the agreement on mineral resources, the Trump government’s threat gives the whole process of business transaction.
There are also serious questions about whether Washington is interested in who will ultimately control Ukraine in the long run, as long as US financial interests are safeguarded.
