Man who maintained tradition of chickens theft is punished with ripadas by faction in Acre

In Marshal Thaumaturgo, a municipality in the interior of Acre, in Alto Juruá, a man tried to keep alive the tradition of theft or robbery of chickens on Hallelujah Saturday, a common practice and existing many years ago in communities in the interior of Brazil, and ended up hurting.

The “chicken theft” on Hallelujah Saturday traditionally has a pilgrimage connotation, often with the owner of the animal stolen and deducted for the end of the Lent, when Catholics abstain from eating meat.

But on Saturday (19), in the municipality of Vale do Juruá, which seemed to be a joke ended in confusion and in a typical case where the police will have to act, since the chicken theft, even on Saturday of Hallelujah, according to the law, is a crime characterized by the Brazilian Penal Code, and the one involved in the case was punished by members of a faction in the municipality.

A video that circulates on social networks shows the man holding two chickens and he admits having them stolen from a chicken coop in the municipality. He also states that the act will not be repeated again. According to reports from residents, the man was reportedly punished by members of a criminal group active in the region, with a beating of slats.

In recording, other man come up with a slat and starts beating. A third person, who apparently leads the action, instructs for the perpetrator to avoid blows to the victim’s head. After several blows, the same person orders the end of aggression.

So far, there is no information if the victim of aggression has needed medical attention. Nor is it known if those responsible were identified or detained by the authorities.
