A newborn was found in serious condition on the afternoon of Saturday, April 19, after being abandoned in a vague lot in the city of Angelândia, in the Jequitinhonha Valley, Minas Gerais. The child was found by rescuers with severe injuries caused by animal attack, including total left ear and left foot amputation, as well as a partial amputation of the right foot. Given the severity of the lesions, the baby was initially taken to the Capelinha Hospital and then transferred from helicopter to João XXIII Hospital in Belo Horizonte.

The rescue mobilized the Fire Department and the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), which found the newborn on Belém Street, in the Vila Nova neighborhood. The Military Police were called and began steps to identify the person responsible for the abandonment. Hours later, the military located the mother of the child, a 16 -year -old who lived in the neighboring house to the lot where the baby was left. According to the PM, the young woman gave birth naturally in one of the rooms of the house where she lives with her mother and stepfather, both also taken to the Capelinha police station to give testimony.
According to Lieutenant Acrísio Gomes de Jesus, from the 23rd Independent PM Company, there is strong evidence that those responsible for the teenager knew the pregnancy. “It’s hard to believe that they were unaware. The delivery occurred inside the house and was not hospital. When we located the young woman, we immediately took to the Polyclinic of Angelândia, where the recent delivery was confirmed,” said the military. During the approach, the teenager showed that she was shaken and avoided talking about the child’s fatherhood.
The Civil Police are investigating the case, which moved the small town of just over 7,000 inhabitants. The health state of the baby remains severe.
