Ricardo Fernandes is a successful professional, a ‘ruffled father’, a proud man of what he built. But it is also a synonym for resilience, someone who faced the procedures of a new life after a serious accident that made him quadriplegic after more than 17 hours missing, in a situation that could soon have been his most premature end. With life built and “tidy house”, so it defines it, Ricardo has no problem assuming that he already has his last day destined: he is a defender of medically assisted death, a term he prefers to replace with ‘medically assisted freedom’, and makes his example a motto for more people to realize a theme that remains a strong taboo. Humorist, physician and musician, all shuffled and without a specific order, Carlos Vidal is a specialist in General and Family Medicine, postgraduate in Sports Medicine from FMUP, and has as the master thesis the “therapeutic benefits of humor”. He organized the “I Health Days: Medicine and Humor”, combining the two arts and treating them the way they should always be viewed: seriously.
It has been invited to various lectures, addressing humor and medicine topics, such as TEDX Youth Aveiro or lectures at the University of Coimbra. It gave a face to several campaigns, including that of the NHS, and organized Risorius-Humor and Art Festival of Albergaria-a-Velha, which had 8 editions.
In this new weekly podcast, Carlos Vidal will think of humor through the stories that each guest brings. The idea is to speak, think, deepen, study and debate laughter and, if all goes well … not come to any conclusion.
