Vlastimir Zirkovits has been a Danube captain for 40 years. He drove the electricity in Serbia for 24 years, and has been one of two captains on the roller ferry near Korneuburg for 16 years. “It’s better here, I don’t have a night shift here,” he laughs, whose parents from Boževac had come to Braunau. In the meantime, he has three grandchildren and two in Serbia, none of which should become Danube captain. “Too much shift work!”
