Salt restriction has long been considered to reduce arterial blood pressure on a long time. However, new studies show that some products may be even more efficient and easy to include in the diet.
What products lower blood pressure?
People with high blood pressure are often advised to reduce consumption to 5 g per day.
Anita Layton, Doctor of Canadian University in Canada, has developed a mathematical model that has shown that increasing potassium -sodium ratio in food may be more effective in lowering blood pressure than reducing sodium alone.
The consumption of high levels of salt can lead to water retention in the body, which causes additional pressure on the walls of blood vessels. It can also damage the blood vessels in the kidneys.
The study showed that incorporating more potassium -rich products such as bananas or broccoli in the diet may have a greater positive effect on your blood pressure than just lowering salt.
Potassium and sodium are electrolytes – substances that help the body send electrical signals to the muscles to shrink, affect the amount of water in the body and perform other important functions.
Untreated high blood pressure can increase the risk of serious health problems, including heart disease and kidney damage.
Who can suddenly increase blood pressure?
Several factors can be caused by a sudden increase in arterial blood pressure (hypertensive crisis). The most common of them are:
- Stress or strong emotional excitement – Stress activates the sympathetic nervous system, which promotes blood vessel narrowing and increase in blood pressure.
- Alcohol, caffeine or drugs – Stimulants can significantly increase arterial blood pressure.
- Physical fatigue – Intensive exercise can provoke blood pressure rising, especially in people with cardiovascular disease.
- Renal disorders – The kidneys play an important role in regulating blood pressure and their pathology can contribute to its jumps.
- Hormonal disorders – For example, with a pheochromocytoma (adrenal tumor) or with thyroid problems.
- Pain – Severe pain syndrome can also lead to a sudden increase in blood pressure.
