Why rare earths come almost exclusively from China

In terms of their name, they are a rarity, in some cases there are ores that contain rare earths more often than lead or copper. The actual problem begins after the discovery of new occurrences – because while in several world regions there are rare earth regions, only China has built up the corresponding industry to further process these metallic elements. Almost 90 percent of the rare earths are processed in China today.
