German Alexander Zverev celebrated his 28th birthday in style on Sunday (20), beating the American Ben Shelton 6/2 and 6/4 in the Munich ATP final.
The 28 -year -old German presented a consistent game to overcome the second key head, reaching his 24th career title and the first of the season.
Champion in Munich in 2017 and 2018, Zverev now equals the record of three titles in the tournament, also belonging to compatriot Philipp Kohlschreiber.
Supported by the strong presence of the public, the head of key 1 dominated the 22 -year -old from the beginning, winning a break early to control the match. He closed the first set easily in 6-2 and started the second with another break, maintaining the rhythm.
“I knew I would have to play my best tennis today, Ben was playing extremely well this week,” said Zverev. “The conditions favor his game a lot, it’s very hot and very fast. To be fair, they also favor me. I’m enjoying my birthday a lot so far.”
