President of the Supreme Court had criticized “Economist” for focusing on “narrative of those who tried the coup”; For lawyer André Marsiglia, the minister shows the Court’s understanding with judgments of the January 8 still ongoing
The note on Saturday (19.br.2025) by the president of the Supreme Court, Minister Luis Roberto Barroso, in response to with criticism of Alexandre de Moraes has inaccuracies and legal errors. It is the evaluation of the lawyer and writer of the Poder360 André Marseille.
In his, he listed 8 “Legal errors” of the note. To the lawyer, the most serious stretch of the text is the part where Barroso states that the “Approach given in the matter [da Economist] It corresponds more to the narrative of those who tried the coup d’état than the real fact that Brazil lives a full democracy, with a rule of law, brakes and counterweights and respect for fundamental rights. ”
“If an official STF note recognizes that there was an attempt to blow, it seems that the judgment, still underway, has already been done without knowing. We are facing a theater. The STF needs to explain immediately.”Afirma Marseille.
He asks: “As an STF who assumes that there was an attempt to blow may have legitimacy to judge if there was an attempt to blow.”. The court is judging the defendants of January 8 and the former president (PL), with 7 other people.
“We defeated Bolsonarism”
The lawyer also questions the following phrase from Barroso’s note: “The President of the Court never said that the Court ‘Defeated Bolsonaro’ (defeated Bolsonaro, in the Portuguese translation). It was the voters. ”

Although Barroso said he never said he defeated Bolsonaro, as the Economistthe full statement (which can be seen above) does not make it clear that he said that “It was the voters”. In his speech, the magistrate speaks “us”which could give rise to other interpretations.
