The Government of Colombia has decreed a health emergency across the country because of the increase in yellow fever cases in the country. According to data from the Ministry of Health, until Saturday, 19, 54 cases of the disease were confirmed and 22 deaths this year alone.
Considering numbers also of 2024, there are already 77 records of the disease from which 35 died.
The cases are distributed among the departments of Tolima, which is the most affected, as well as Huila, Cauca, Nariño, Putumayo, Caldas, Meta, Vaupés, and Caquetá.
Yellow fever is a mosquito -transmitted viral disease and has among the sudden high fever symptoms, intense and lasting headache, lack of appetite, nausea and body pain, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
In serious forms, it can lead to liver and renal failure with jaundice aggravation – yellowish coloration in the white part of the eyes, as well as bleeding.
The Colombian government has expanded the vaccination campaign in the country, focusing on children from nine months of age and adults from 59 years.

Vaccination is free and provides immunity from the tenth day of application on 95% of vaccinations.
