Salvatorian President Nayib Bukele offered returning Venezuelans in exchange for the release of opponents arrested by Maduro
El Salvador President Nayib Bukele (new ideas, right) proposed a prisoners with Venezuela on Sunday (20.br.2025). The proposal on his X profile and directed to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
According to Bukele, the idea is to return to Venezuela 252 prisoners by the US and deported to El Salvador accused of being gang members. In return, Venezuela would send 252 retained people, which Bukele classified as “political prisoners.”
“I want to propose a humanitarian agreement that includes the repatriation of 100% of the 252 Venezuelans who have been deported, in exchange for the release and delivery of an identical number (252) of the thousands of political prisoners you maintain”wrote Bukele at X.
Among the Venezuelan political prisoners are Rafael Tudares, son -in -law of presidential candidate Edmundo González, and Corina Parisca de Machado, mother of opponent María Corina Machado.
Support TABMO has mentioned almost 50 detainees from other nationalities, including US, German and French citizens, as part of the proposed exchange. NHe said if the prisoners would be arrested again after the exchange.
According to the Salvatorian President, the El Salvador Foreign Ministry will send a “Formal correspondence” to Venezuela.
