It is often believed that decluttering is a titanic enterprise, to be faced with entire work boxes and days. In reality, the secret lies in the small steps. It is not necessary to revolutionize everything at once, but proceed by areas, perhaps even for only ten minutes a day. Starting with an “easy” environment, such as bathroom or entrance, can help to see quick and motivating results. A useful trick? Set a 15 -minute timer: at that time the superfluous is eliminated, the objects are offered out of place and you order in a small area. Once finished, you immediately feel lighter.

In addition, dividing objects into categories helps to make clearer decisions. You can start separating what you want to keep, or the really useful, loved or recently used objects. Then, all that is in good condition but no longer necessary can be donated or sold. Finally, what is broken, expired or unusable must be recycled or deleted responsibly. Not everything must be perfect. Is a good criterion to select: “I really need this object? I would use it today, if I already had it?”. If the answer is no, better let it go.
